Team battles in anime can provide the same kind of intensity as a duel between monstrous characters. It doesn’t just feature the development of a single character, but of a team as a whole. There’s more depth to it because we get to see evolving character dynamics. From student squads who are forced together to teams that arise from hard-headed rivalries, here are our picks for the best anime team fights and team battle scenes.
12. Gon, Killua, and Hisoka (Hunter X Hunter)
Wit beats talent and teamwork beats brute strength. That’s the powerful theme of this particular scene from Hunter X Hunter, which features a strategy that defeated Razor’s overwhelming power. Gon, Killua, and Hisoka each contribute fairly to this combination in utilizing their abilities. If even one of them fail at their role, they all die from a direct hit from the Gamemaster’s ball—so trust in one another at this very moment is crucial, making this team battle an intense one.
11. Kuroko and Taiga (Kuroko’s Basketball)
Kuroko’s Basketball is a sports anime filled with awesome teams, including Kagami Taiga and Tetsuya Kuroko of Seirin’s basketball team. With Kuroko’s perfect passes, steals, misdirections, and lack of court presence, in addition to Kagami’s destructive and aggressive ball play, their team is always able to score baskets. Not to mention they have a three-pointer and an “uncrowned king” on their roster. This scene features Kuroko’s “cyclone pass” that crosses the entire court with Kagami scoring a basket. It’s one of the best fast-break moments in the entire series.
10. Revenge Counter (Seven Deadly Sins)
The teamwork featured in this Seven Deadly Sins scene is unusual and risky, as the rest of the group hits and damages both Hendrickson and Meliodas with their abilities. But that’s just to prepare for a counterattack that can defeat any villain: the Revenge Counter. It’s a truly unique collaboration between Holy Knights and the Seven Deadly Sins, with Meliodas sacrificing himself.
9. UA Festival Cavalry Battle (My Hero Academia)
Midoriya got the highest score in the preceding game, making this Cavalry Battle an all-or-nothing shot for him and the other students. All of them want Team Midoriya’s headband, which is worth millions of points. We see how every team has their own compatibility between their members’ Quirks and how they each fight effectively, like Kirishima and Tetsutetsu who are perfect for defense because of their Hardening Quirks and Ida’s fast movements for charging forward.
8. Black Bulls vs. Vetto (Black Clover)
In this battle against an elf, who’s notably stronger than a wizard, the Black Bulls joined forces to save the Seabed Temple. The coolest part was the Asta-Finral-Vanessa combination, which made trouble for Vetto. With Finral’s Spatial Magic and Vanessa’s Thread Magic, they assist Asta with mobility and counterattacks. They use a tactic that’s similar to run-and-gun as they utilize their magic abilities.
7. Demon Slayer Corps vs. Upper Moon Six Demons (Demon Slayer)
The Entertainment District Arc of Demon Slayer features a one-of-a-kind battle between the Corps and the Demons of the district. Aside from the insanely animated fight scene, the death toll and the Demon Slayers being badly wounded added tons of tension to the episodes. The moment when it looks like the Demons won, Tanjiro and the others push themselves further and swing their blades more, decapitating both Daki and Gyutaro. The Upper Moons, too, put up a good team fight against the Corps, cornering them to near-death situations.
6. Kugisaki Nobara and Itadori Yuji vs. Curse Brothers (Jujutsu Kaisen)
During one of their investigations, Megumi got separated and had to fight a Special-Grade Cursed Spirit alone, while Nobara and Yuji face two of the Curse Brothers. Taking advantage of the Curse Technique, the duo managed to turn the tide of battle for them and didn’t hold back even though they were marked by an ability that would kill them if left unchecked.
5. Asta and Yami vs. Dante (Black Clover)
Dante, a devil-possessed mage of the Spade Kingdom, invaded the headquarters of the Black Bulls and caused total destruction. This fight scene further explored Asta’s devil as we saw him show his grudge against Dante—or, rather, the devil of Dante. The most badass part of this fight scene is when Yami threw his sword at Asta (who just lost his swords). With the devil’s arm, the katana turned into a more powerful blade that cut Dante’s body.
4. Kise-Aomine Perfect Copy (Kuroko’s Basketball: Last Game)
Ryota Kise has the ability to copy any player’s move, while Daiki Aomine has incredible and unpredictable gameplay. So what would happen if the two joined forces? An unstoppable duo! This moment featured Aomine in his Zone Mode while Kise was on his ordinary Perfect Copy, cornering their opponent and rendering him unable to push forward. What’s so satisfying about this scene is when we see the duo move synchronously as if there are two Aomine on the court.
3. Naruto and Sasuke vs. Momoshiki (Boruto: Naruto Next Generations)
Naruto and Sasuke had a lot of badass moments through Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, but if you think their awesomeness ended with the Fourth Great Ninja War, think again! In Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, we see a lot more of their tag team fights. This one features their battle against Momoshiki, in which Naruto was abducted and the rest—including his son Boruto—came to save him. In this scene, the team’s movements are coordinated as if they can read each other’s minds, showing the true power of teamwork.
2. Two One For All Quirks (My Hero Academia: Two Heroes)
Last Smash. That’s what everyone thought after Izuku Midoriya passed down the One For All Quirk to someone he trusts: Katsuki Bakugo. But before the heartbreaking goodbye to his Quirk, the duo showed how perfect they are as a team, both having One For All and doubling the power to defeat the villain and save the people.
1. Boogie Woogie (Jujutsu Kaisen)
Itadori Yuji and Aoi Todo were supposed to be enemies during this school competition, but when the Special Grade Curses appear, it turns into a survival game where they need to work together. Todo trained Yuji on how to utilize his curse energy and use Black Flash, giving them the advantage in their battle against Hanami. With the powerful punch from Yuji and the unpredictable Boogie Woogie ability of Todo that swaps places of targets, they drove the Curse Spirit into a corner and forced it to use her own Domain Expansion.
